About Chapman Hamborg

Chapman grew up on the coast of Southern California, spending much of his childhood outdoors and creating art. At the age of nineteen, Chapman moved to Florence, Italy, to study traditional painting and sculpture. During his time in Europe, Chapman cultivated his talent as a painter and sculptor and met his wife, Hannah, while traveling in London. They have since moved to California and have two children.

Chapman’s family has served as inspiration for his paintings and sculptures. His goal is that these pieces show beauty in the raw, vulnerable moments that families share. Chapman’s plein-air landscapes are of places that have moved him, especially the coast of California or the Tuscan countryside of Italy.

Chapman graduated from Angel Academy of Art, studied at the Florence Academy of Art, and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Laguna College of Art and Design. He was awarded first place in the 2014 international Art Renewal Center scholarship competition, taken part in Grand Central Academy’s Hudson River Fellowship, painted public murals in Huntington Beach, and is best known for his anatomical heart sculpture for the album cover of Have It All by Bethel Music. Chapman shows his work in galleries and exhibitions internationally, is an instructor at Terra Arts Academy, is the Founder, and CEO of Hamborg Atelier, and travels the world teaching workshops and creating live art on stage at conferences and events.

This is an opportunity to connect with Chapman and other Protégé students and talk art via Zoom. Each month there will be a different topic planned for the conversation. Discussion topic examples include: overcoming artist’s block, finding good sources of inspiration, managing the business side of art, creating a good work ethic and flow. There will also be a time reserved for Q&A, where you can ask Chapman questions. This meeting will occur on the first Monday of each month at 6 PM Pacific Standard Time.

Hamborg Atelier is approved as a materials provider for Excel Academy. If you are with a different charter, and would like to use your charter funds towards Hamborg Atelier, submit a request to your educational specialist so I can apply to become an approved materials provider with them. These courses are set up for both beginners and advanced students alike. Chapman starts at the very basics, introducing topics slowly and breaking down his process step-by-step. So if you have no experience, don’t worry. Students as young as 10 years old have been enjoying the Hamborg Atelier courses. The courses being released will continue to grow in expertise and technique, creating courses that will challenge advanced students as well.

You can share your work to the Artist Forum, where Chapman and other students can give you feedback on your work. To get more feedback and mentorship, you can upgrade to a Protégé student and be a part of the monthly art discussion and Q&A with Chapman Hamborg.

New courses are added regularly.

Each course is on a specific topic, for example, Watercolor Fundamentals. Within that course, there will be several lessons related to that topic. Such lessons will include things like materials, mark-making, and then a variety of techniques and concepts, with tips and tricks.

The video length varies based on the lessons. Some of the video lessons are shorter when they are introducing a topic or going over materials, and may be around only five to ten minutes. Some video lessons are more in-depth and are up to an hour or two. Each course will include several lessons.
